Linda Nosul & Catherine Travers will take you on an undergraound adventure
She’s Cathy Travers, and I’m Linda Nosul, and we began our creative writing collaboration in 1986. We share a passion for storytelling especially the kind we’d love to see on screen ourselves. Over the years, we’ve carved out time between family obligations and work demands to transform our ideas into a few meaningful projects.
With a background in elementary education, I’ve taught every grade from kindergarten to sixth, always gravitating toward the vibrant energy of the middle grades. Cathy’s background is in business administration and project management. Both careers offered us numerous creative opportunities to craft stories.
Early In 2008, our merged talents resulted in a resource hub we called A Teaching Tree, offering engaging, standards-based curriculum tools for educators. One of our best products under that banner was An American Town, a role-playing resource for grades six through twelve, published by Lorenz-Milliken Publishing.
Much has happened since 2008 but through it all, we’ve kept up our writing. During the Covid lockdown, we revisited one of our earlier screenplays and reimagined it as our debut middle-grade novel, Beanstalk: Book 1 Decent into Ondergrondse — a fresh, scary, somewhat wholesome, twist on a classic fairy tale. We originally saw it as a potential big screen property, but the story just came to life so vividly once we got it on the page. We had so much fun writing, we decided there should be a series of books to bring back some of the same characters. We just couldn’t resist planting the “seeds” for the sequel at the end of Beanstalk: Book 1 Decent into Ondergrondse.
